Explore over 30 historic buildings, from a one-room schoolhouse to a working print shop, and discover how early settlers lived, worked, and thrived when “Pine was King.”

On this self-guided tour, uncover the thrilling stories of Great Lakes captains, shipwrecks, and historic car ferries at the Port of Ludington Maritime Museum. Located inside a beautifully restored 1934 U.S. Coast Guard Station, this immersive museum brings Mason County’s rich maritime heritage to life through state-of-the-art digital exhibits, interactive storytelling, and rare artifacts.

Spend the day exploring the maritime, lumbering, and agricultural industries of Mason County. Stroll through Historic White Pine Village and learn how the early settlers lived and worked. At the Village docents will share the rich lumbering and agricultural history that brought many to the area when “Pine was King.” After spending two hours at the Village break for lunch and then join us at the Port of Ludington Maritime Museum for a digitally interactive experience that will bring to life the rich maritime history of Mason County and the greater West Michigan area. Tours can be done on separate days.

While at the Mason County Historical Society, visitors can take in the exhibits as they head to the Emporium and Sweet Shop for a little shopping. Additional tour options include historical presentations and behind-the-scenes tours that will inspire you to not only engage with your local historical society but to start writing your own legacy.
Next, join us at the Port of Ludington Maritime Museum for a digitally interactive experience that will bring to life the rich maritime history of Mason County and the greater West Michigan area.
Tour the Mason County Research Center for a behind-the-scenes tour that highlights key industries and individuals that made Mason County what it is today, while there learn how a historical society preserves local and state history.
