Heritage Circle Estate Giving Program
By joining the Heritage Circle, you play a crucial role in securing the Mason County Historical Society’s legacy for generations to come — through a bequest, IRA gift, life insurance designation, appreciated stock, or charitable remainder trust.
LEGACY GIVING
A Gift That Outlasts a Lifetime
Heritage Circle members provide critical support that enables us to offer educational programs, maintain historical sites, and curate exhibitions that bring our history to life. Your legacy gift ensures the long-term sustainability of the Mason County Historical Society’s operations for the next generation — and the generation after that.
Many of the Mason County Historical Society’s past achievements have been made possible by legacies from members and friends. Your will or trust could help shape the Historical Society’s future successes.
Ways to Give Through Your Estate
- Bequest in Your Will or Trust — Designate a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or name MCHS as a residual beneficiary. It costs nothing now and can be changed at any time. Simply include language designating the Mason County Historical Society (EIN available upon request) as a beneficiary.
- IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) — Donors aged 70½ or older may make a QCD of up to $100,000 directly from their IRA to charity. These gifts may also satisfy required minimum distributions (RMDs) and can provide significant tax advantages. A form is provided to assist in communicating with your retirement account holder.
- Gifts of Appreciated Stock — Directly donating stocks, mutual funds, or bonds eliminates capital gains tax on the appreciated value. You may also receive a charitable income tax deduction for the full fair market value. A form is provided to assist in making gifts of stock.
- Life Insurance — Designate MCHS as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy, or donate an existing policy you no longer need. Life insurance is often an overlooked asset that can fund a significant legacy gift.
- Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) — A CRT provides you and/or other beneficiaries with a stream of income for life or a period of years. After the trust terminates, the remainder interest passes to MCHS. This arrangement can provide substantial tax benefits while supporting our mission.
