Coast Guard Station Ludington
A moving chronicle of duty, rescue, and sacrifice on Lake Michigan.
There is something uniquely powerful about a museum that occupies the same space as the history it tells. For 70 years, the men of Coast Guard Station Ludington operated out of the very building that now houses the Port of Ludington Maritime Museum — and this exhibit honors their service in the place where it happened.
The display traces the full personnel history of the station, from its earliest crews to the final generation who served there, through the storms, rescues, training exercises, and daily operations that defined Coast Guard life on Lake Michigan. Photographs, uniforms, equipment, and personal accounts paint a vivid portrait of the men who stood watch over Ludington’s waters.
For families with connections to the Coast Guard, this is an exhibit of deep personal resonance. For everyone else, it’s a moving tribute to a tradition of service that continues today.
