PM 22: Piloting the Carferry
Step into the pilothouse of the Pere Marquette 22 and navigate across Lake Michigan in the 1930s.
This is the exhibit that people talk about after they leave. The pilothouse of the Pere Marquette 22 has been recreated with remarkable fidelity and then brought to life through an immersive interactive simulation that puts you at the helm of a Great Lakes car ferry in the 1930s.
As you navigate in and out of Ludington Harbor, you’ll contend with the same conditions the real pilots faced: shifting winds, changing visibility, the weight of a fully loaded vessel, and the responsibility of bringing it safely to port. The combination of authentic physical environment and digital simulation creates an experience unlike anything else in Western Michigan’s museum landscape.
It’s the crown jewel of the Port of Ludington Maritime Museum’s interactive offerings — and one of the top family attractions in Mason County.
