See a working 1905 Port Huron Sawmill.

When the whistle blew at a lumber camp sawmill, the whole operation came to life. At Historic White Pine Village, you don’t just read about that moment — on demonstration days, you experience it.

The 1905 Port Huron Sawmill, housed in a 17 x 60-foot shed purpose-built for the machine, was donated to the Village on April 5, 1995, by Karel Taborsky and Weldon Burchill, D.D.S. Watching logs fed into the mill and emerge as lumber is a visceral reminder of how completely the sawmill transformed raw Michigan wilderness into the material that built homes, barns, and cities across the Midwest.

This steam-powered sawmill is one of the most dramatic and authentic exhibits at the Historic White Pine Village.
