Jorissen Barn
Explore the Jorissen Barn, a landmark of Mason County’s agricultural heritage.
Jorissen Barn is one of the most historically significant in Mason County. It was donated by Jerome Jorissen, co-founder of Historic White Pine Village, from his farm in Pere Marquette Township.
Rather than simply demolishing the barn or leaving it to decay, Jorissen and the Village undertook a meticulous deconstruction and reconstruction: each timber was numbered according to its original location, then transported and reassembled at the Village in precisely the same configuration. The result is an authentic barn that captures both the scale and the craftsmanship of 19th-century agricultural construction.
Inside and around the barn, visitors gain a deep appreciation for the role of the family farm in Mason County’s development and for the care that goes into preserving living history.
