Step into a 1920s hardware store and discover the tools and goods that built Mason County.

In 1921, William and his wife moved to Ludington to help operate his father-in-law’s business, Krogen Hardware. Eight years later, they purchased it outright and renamed it William Anderson Hardware Store, thereby writing their family name into the city’s retail history.

At Historic White Pine Village, the William Anderson Sr. Hardware Store exhibit recreates the atmosphere of that early 20th-century shop: shelves lined with tools, fasteners, household goods, and farm supplies that reflect both the practical needs of the era and the personal relationships between shopkeeper and customer that made local hardware stores the anchors of their communities.

It’s a fascinating time capsule for anyone who has ever spent a Saturday morning wandering the aisles of a hardware store — except here, every item has a story.
